The Jin Dynasty (晋朝 or 晉朝), also known as Western Jin (西晋), is a kingdom featured in Dynasty Warriors 7. The Dynasty Warriors game has the faction symbolized by a light blue color. The Western Jin Dynasty has its roots with Sima Yi, who served Wei during Cao Cao's time. In Romance of the Three Kingdoms their color varies. The Sima clan’s rise to power continued under Sima Yi’s children, Sima Shi and Sima Zhao. The power of the Sima family was established in the State of Wei by Sima Yi (l. 179-251 CE) during the period of the Three Kingdoms prior to the rise of the Jin Dynasty. He was a son of Sima Zhao 司馬昭 (211-265) and a grandson of Sima Yi 司馬懿 (179-251), a powerful minister of the Wei empire 曹魏 (220-265) of the Three Kingdoms 三國 (220~280 CE). In doing so, he established the Jin dynasty, and with the final conquests of Wu and Shu, ended the Three Kingdoms period.
Prior to the formation of the Jin Dynasty, Sima Yi was a Minister of the Wei State (220-265). By the time Cao Pi had obtained the Nine Bestowments, the Sima family's reputation had grown exponentially. Sima Yi (司馬懿), styled Zhongda (仲達), born in Wen County, Henei Prefecture (Presently Wen County in He Nan Province). In 239, Emperor Mingdi of Wei State died and Cao Shuang and Sima Yi were appointed as co-heads of the state’s armed forces. The latter was a son of Sima You 司馬伷 (227-283), the fifth son of Sima Yi 司馬懿 (179-251), while the rulers of the Western Jin dynasty 西晉 (265-316) had been descendants of You's elder brother Sima Zhao 司馬昭 (211-265). Emperor Jin Wudi 晉武帝 (236-290, r. 265-290), personal name Sima Yan, courtesy name Anshi 安世, was the founder of the Jin dynasty 晉 (265-420). Fourteen years later, Sima Yi’s grandson, Sima Yan, usurped the throne from Cao Huan. The Jin dynasty is, like the Han dynasty, separated in two: a Western Jin dynasty 西晉朝 and an Eastern Jin dynasty 東晉朝. Jin, introduced to the games in DW7 is essentially Wei in its later years as led by the Sima Clan (Sima Yi and later his sons, Sima Shi and Zhao). Sima Yi is a reputed intellectual who is accredited as the ancestral founder of Western Jin.Once he agreed to serve the Cao family, he became one of Cao Pi's close friends and subsequently an influential figure in Wei, cunningly defending himself from his many detractors.
After the ruler's death, he offered his services to Cao Pi and Cao Rui. Although Sima Yan (also known as Emperor Wu of Jin) established the Jin Dynasty, its foundations were laid by his predecessors. Before the establishment of the Jin Dynasty (265 – 420), Sima Yi was a Wei State minister during the Three Kingdoms Period. At that time, Sima Zhao was a mid-level official in the government of Cao Wei and a member of a privileged clan, as the son of the general Sima Yi. After he died, his two sons Sima Shi and Sima Zhao successfully took power. Sima Zhao was more ambitious and was always plotting to replace Kingdom of Wei with Jin. In late time of the Three Kingdoms Period (220 - 280), Sima Yi grasped the real power of Kingdom of Wei.
