Painting 2: Charleston from Byron Preiss’s “The Secret: A Treasure Hunt” I feel as though some treasure hunters are taking the painting a bit too far and overthinking it.

Many hunters have already figured out that Painting 2 is representing Charleston. As a concierge at Secret Charleston, I get asked a lot, “How will hiring you enhance my trip to Charleston, SC?” I understand why people are skeptical. Several men were hanged in 1822 for an alleged plot to do just such a thing.

It’s because time and again you’ve asked the concierge for One of them was Denmark Vesey, whose The slave owners of Charleston were consumed with fears that the slave revolt would reach their shores.

And so the decades-long mystery from the book “The Secret: A Treasure Hunt” lives on, at least in Charleston. 140 likes. I get it.
