A history of the German presence in the American Southwest, from the mid-nineteenth century through the World War I era. Beginning in the 1830s, large numbers of Germans began to settle in Cincinnati. Germans also played an important role in the Dutch creation of New Amsterdam, which later became New York City, during the early 1620's. For most of the nineteenth century, Germans represented the largest continental immigrant population in Britain, yet to date no study has concentrated on them.
